To make cleaning in and around braces easier, there are special cleaning tools that efficiently and effectively scrub the hard-to-clean and hard-to-reach areas in your mouth. Dr. Amy Richter and our orthodontic team encourage you to use these tools so you can have a pristine oral health during your orthodontic journey.
Some special cleaning tools include:
Floss threaders: Floss threaders are loop-shaped tools that allow you to thread the floss between the wire and the teeth. All you need to do is slide the floss through the loop and pull the tool up and through that space. Then pull the floss out of the loop and slide it between the crevices of your teeth.
Dental picks: Dental picks provide another convenient way of getting underneath the wires so you can clean the teeth. There are many different types and shapes of dental picks, so feel free to try out a few and see which tool you like most.
Interdental toothbrush: An interdental toothbrush is a small brush that has a furry wire at the tip. This wire contains strong bristles that can clean small spaces. All you need to do is place the brush in the area that needs cleaning and start scrubbing.
Water flossers: Water flossers are handy, high-tech tools that complete the smile-cleaning job. They are hand-held wands that spray a stream of water out of the tip. All you need to do is place the tip in spaces throughout the smile and it will wash the debris away.
