Invisalign is an effective and convenient treatment, but it can also be a bit overwhelming and confusing, which can lead to many questions. However, there is no need to worry—Dr. Amy Richter and our orthodontic team are here to help you by providing answers to frequently asked questions about Invisalign in Buffalo, New York.
How often do I need to wear my aligners?
In order for the treatment to be successful, you need to wear the aligners up to 22 hours each day. You can remove them from your mouth when you eat, drink, or clean your smile.
Are there food restrictions during treatment?
There are zero food restrictions while aligning your smile because you’ll remove the aligner before eating. However, please remember to clean your teeth and gums before putting the aligner back in place.
Will my speech be affected while wearing the aligners?
Like any orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period when you will need to get used to the aligner. Your speech might be affected during this time. But once you adjust, normal speech will return.
Can I chew gum while wearing the aligners?
It’s best to remove the aligner before chewing gum because the gum will stick to the aligner and ruin it.
Will Invisalign treatment hurt?
Naturally, your teeth will feel sore the first day or two after you first begin treatment and after you switch to a new aligner. This is a sign that your teeth are moving.
How do I keep my aligners clean?
Brush them regularly with a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste.
How long will I need to use Invisalign?
Each smile is different. Your treatment time will depend on the severity of your misaligned teeth. Typically, treatment can last anywhere from six to 18 months.
